Learners were asked to mention the possible ways in which one can be polite in daily situations. They were able to connect the idea of politeness with a number of phrases and even body language. After that, they were given some expressions to be classified into categories such as “Phrases to ask for something” and “Expressions to ask about the meaning of a word”. They worked individually in order to write each phrase under a category. Then, students prepared a poster in which they included all the sentences that they could find by using the flashcards they were provided with.
By means of this activity, students could reflect upon the importance of making use of polite expressions in everyday situations. They recognized that, though they know it is essential to use them, they often forget them.
